Anti Wrinkle Injections – Important Facts You Need To Know
ByThese days, it seems like almost everyone is getting Botox anti wrinkle injections. Others opt for collagen fillers or similar types of injections. It’s not really surprising, since nobody likes wrinkles. Many people don’t actually research before they have these types of procedures, though. So, if you’re thinking of having it done, there are some important facts you need to know. Keep reading for information specific to the Botox brand of anti aging injection.
Is it Toxic?
Well, the answer to that is yes and no. Botox comes from a compound called Botulinum, which, as you might know, is responsible for an illness called botulism. Botulism is, at the very least, highly unpleasant to have. At worse, it can even kill a person. So, that’s the yes part.
The no part is that Botox is a derivative of the original compound, which isn’t fatal in small doses when injected into your skin. In fact, in 1989 the FDA officially approved the use of it for treating both wrinkles and problems with muscles around the eyes. Eleven years later, in 2000, it was also approved to treat severe shoulder and neck contractions, known as cervical dystonia.
How it Works:
Botox injections are basically used to block nerve impulses. Those impulses are what cause muscles to move. So, without them, the muscles that cause frown lines on your forehead can’t scrunch up and create those lines. Of course, the same idea can be applied to other facial muscles and lines, too.
The Clown Factor:
Many people are accused of looking like clowns or mannequins when they get Botox injections. There’s a good reason for that. The Botox paralyzes muscles so that they stay tight and wrinkles can’t form. It takes around three days to take full effect and it can take as much as five weeks or so to fully wear off. So, during that time, it may be difficult, if not impossible, to make certain facial movements, like smiling or frowning.
Costs:
Since Botox does eventually wear off, it may need to be repeated, so costs can stack up fairly quickly. It’s important to keep that in mind. Also, though, the costs can range from around $350 to over $1,300 for just one solitary injection. It all depends on what part of your face you’re having done and where you get the procedure done. Just remember, it’s more important to get the procedure done by a certified professional than to cut corners with costs.
Hazards:
Finally, be aware of potential hazards of Botox anti wrinkle injections. Botulism, as mentioned above, has the potential make you extremely ill. So, it’s always best to talk to your doctor before you get Botox injections.
